About the Role
The Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) is a 16-bed unit specializing in the care of patients with complex neurosurgical conditions. Ranked as a High Performing Hospital by U.S. News & World Report in Neurology and Neurosurgery, the unit operates within the Henry Ford Neurosciences Institute using a multidisciplinary team approach. Nurse Assistants (NAs) are a valued part of this team and play a crucial role in patient care.
Under the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse (RN), the NA performs specific patient care duties to meet the safety and comfort needs of patients. They provide input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care and respond to emergent situations according to established procedures. The NA also participates in their own continuing education.
Responsibilities
- Perform specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs under RN supervision.
- Assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care.
- Respond to emergent situations following established procedures.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development.
- Adhere to Henry Ford Health System Team Member Standards of Excellence in all interactions.
Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Must meet one of the following criteria:
- Completion of a Nurse Assistant program (e.g., Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Patient Assistant Technician (PAT)).
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program with or without experience.
- At least one (1) year of previous experience in an NA, PCT, PAT, or similar role.
- Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Nursing course.
- Foreign-trained and licensed RN who has relocated to the United States and does not hold a Michigan RN license.
Qualifications
- Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) license preferred.
- Complete BLS Heartsaver Certification during orientation.
Additional Information
This position is located at Henry Ford Hospital - Detroit Main Campus, within the I6 Stroke/Neuro Stepdown department. The shift is rotating, and the role is non-union.
