Nurse Assistant-MICU-Days-24 hr/ week-Detroit
About the role
The Nurse Assistant works under the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse (RN) in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), a 68-bed unit divided into six pods spanning two floors. The MICU serves a wide range of critically ill, medical-based patients, including some of the sickest in the region and state. This fast-paced, highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment focuses on high-quality care and evidence-based practice. Nurse Assistants play a major role in reducing patient risk of injury by focusing on patient turns and other safety and comfort measures.
Nurse Assistants provide input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care, respond to emergent situations according to established procedures, and participate in their own continuing education. They follow the Henry Ford Health System Team Member Standards of Excellence in all interactions.
Responsibilities
- Perform specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient.
- Assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care.
- Respond to emergent situations according to established procedures.
- Participate in continuing education.
- Focus on patient turns and other measures to reduce the patient’s risk of injury.
Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Must meet one of the following criteria:
- Completion of a Nurse Assistant program (e.g., Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Patient Assistant Technician (PAT)).
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program with or without experience.
- At least one (1) year of previous experience in an NA, PCT, PAT, or similar role.
- Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Nursing course.
- Foreign trained and licensed RN who has relocated to the United States and does not hold a Michigan RN license.
Qualifications
- Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) license preferred.
- Complete BLS Heartsaver Certification during orientation.
