Maintained Duties
- Maintains effective, professional, and appropriate communication during all patient, family encounters and healthcare team member interactions.
- Identifies concerns related to patients, staff, and self, and communicates with the responsible RN.
- Assists the RN in admitting, transferring, and discharging of patients.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to patients’ comfort and privacy and is engaged in patients’ care.
- Answers patient questions and explains procedures when performing.
- Maintains a clean, safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with HFHS standards.
- Recognizes and responds to emergencies and alarms and immediately communicates situations to appropriate persons.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit care data.
- Documents patient care provided.
- Performs general clerical duties as assigned.
- Provides personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, mobility, comfort, and transportation.
- Makes necessary supply deliveries to patient rooms and ancillary departments.
- Performs other related duties as required within the scope of practice.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- CNA preferred.
- Completion of a Nurse Assistant program (titles for similar programs may vary; e.g., Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Patient Assistant Technician (PAT) but perform the same job role.).
- OR May be currently enrolled in a nursing program and have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Nursing course.
- OR Foreign trained and licensed RN who has relocated to the United States and does not hold a Michigan RN license.
- OR Medical Assistant program with or without experience.
- OR At least one (1) year of previous experience in an NA, PCT, PAT, or similar job role.
Certifications/Licenses
- Complete BLS Heart Saver Certification during orientation.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
- Physical ability to lift and move patients, supplies and equipment.
- Works in patient care environments, which may include exposure to communicable diseases, unpleasant odors, acute patient conditions, potential exposure to infection, hazardous gases.
- Prolonged standing, walking, and lifting of patients, supplies and equipment.
