About the role
The Indian Health Service (IHS) seeks nurses to deliver compassionate care to patients in various departments including the Emergency Department, Obstetrics/Labor and Delivery, Operating Room, and Med/Surg-Inpatient. Nurses will assess, plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate patient care, providing comprehensive emergency care, obstetric care, and med-surg inpatient care.
Responsibilities
- Assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating the delivery of skilled patient care in accordance with nursing standards and evidence-based practice.
- Performing triage using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) system to determine patient acuity and prioritize treatment needs.
- Providing comprehensive emergency care to stable, unstable, and critically ill patients, including stabilization, resuscitation, and life-support interventions.
- Utilizing critical thinking skills to make complex clinical decisions and respond effectively to rapidly changing patient conditions.
- Developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized patient care plans across the continuum of care including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, obstetrical triage, and newborn nursery services.
- Maintaining required certifications (e.g., ACLS, BLS, PALS) and demonstrating competency in advanced perioperative and procedural nursing skills.
- Administering medications and performing procedures in accordance with established policies and clinical standards.
- Participating in performance improvement, patient safety, and quality initiatives to enhance clinical effectiveness and efficiency.
Requirements
The IHS requires U.S. citizenship and a Selective Service Registration for males born after 12/31/1959. Applicants must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check and complete a federal background investigation as a condition of employment. The position requires rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must have experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the specific position for which they are applying. Successful completion of a federal background investigation is required.

Benefits
Nurses will receive a recruitment/relocation sign-on bonus, if eligible, and may qualify for reimbursement of relocation expenses. The position offers a competitive salary range of $73,426 - $103,672 per year, with a GS 5 - 7 promotion potential and a moderate risk (MR) security clearance.
Pay
The starting salary for this position is $73,426 per year, with a potential for promotion to GS 7. The pay scale and grade are determined by the job classification.
Schedule
The majority of positions to be filled under this announcement are full-time. This announcement may also be used to fill various work schedules, including full-time, part-time (less than 40 hours per week), and intermittent (as needed).
