Responsibilities

  • Works 7-3p and 3-11p as needed.
  • Assists the nurse with various duties as directed, including placing specialty mattresses when applicable.
  • Performs proper glucose testing and records results accurately and timely.
  • Participates in FALLS PREVENTION PROGRAM and identifies patients at risk for falls.
  • Practices wound prevention protocol.
  • Maintains proper use of PPE and follows Universal Precautions.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality of patient, facility and physician related information.
  • Does not discuss patients or hospital business in public areas.
  • Is HIPAA competent and compliant.
  • Records and administers patient weight, blood pressure, temperature, oxygen saturation and pulse in a timely manner.
  • Performs and records complete/partial baths, oral care, denture care, hair care, Foley care, shaving, and bed making skills.
  • Administers patient restraints and ensures patient safety.
  • Aids in toileting needs, empties collection devices, and maintains an organized work space.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate accurately verbally and in writing.
  • Maintains a harmonious work environment with coworkers and staff.
  • Safely transports patients via wheelchair and/or stretcher.
  • Answers phone promptly and courteously, transports specimens to lab, and records in a book.
  • Prepares patients for meals, serves fresh water and snacks, and responds to patient call lights.
  • Captures and documents specimens as instructed, including urine, sputum, and stool specimens.
  • Positions patients, uses LYCO lift, transfers patients between bed and chair, and performs EKGs.
  • Reports all abnormal findings to the assigned nurse or charge nurse.
  • Performs hourly rounding on patients to ensure their needs are met and patient safety is upheld.
  • Notifies the nurse when taking breaks or meals.
  • Manages supplies without bringing excessive amounts into patients' rooms.
  • Acts as a patient sitter and adheres to standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
  • Identifies and modifies care based on the specific needs of the patient population served, including cultural, hearing, and visually impaired patients.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • 6 months to 1 year experience in a healthcare setting.
  • BLS - AHA approved.
