Nurse Aide Instructor

Under limited supervision, the Instructor for Nurse Aide provides engaging and high-quality instruction while supporting student success through advising, mentorship, and academic engagement. Courses are taught in a variety of formats based on the needs of the department. Faculty contribute to departmental and institutional goals through curriculum development, committee service, professional development, and collaboration with colleagues across the college and the North Carolina Community College System.

Responsibilities

• Prepares lectures, tests, syllabi, and teaches in the classroom, lab, and clinical rotations.
• Teaches Nursing Assistant I, Nursing Assistant II, Nursing Assistant I Refresher, NA II Competency, or Medication Aide classes as necessary.
• Maintains office hours to meet with students outside of class time to interact and assist students in various areas. Office hour duties include assisting the Director of Health Care Programs and/or the Nurse Aide Coordinator with coordination of health care courses and orientation of new part-time health care instructors.
• Performs related administrative and record-keeping duties per guidelines set forth by governing agencies, the Division of Health Service Regulation, and the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
• Remains active in professional organizations and activities; keeps abreast of newest research and technological advances relative to teaching nursing assisting courses by reading professional journals and attending seminars, conferences, and meetings.
• Maintains current Healthcare Provider-CPR status, immunization records, and RN status.
• Receives, reviews, processes, files, and/or submits a variety of documents and reports such as attendance reports, grade sheets, evaluation forms, professional development forms, medical forms, checklists, purchase orders, memos, and general correspondence.
• Assists with preparing departmental objectives; serves on various college committees and organizations and attends meetings as required.
• Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Nursing.
• Current, unencumbered RN license to practice in North Carolina.
• At least two (2) years (4,000 hours) of experience as a registered nurse in the U.S.
• Must meet at least one of the following:
  • Completed a course in teaching adult students.
  • Experience in teaching adult students.
  • Experience in supervising nursing assistants.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN).

Work Environment

Work is performed in a variety of environments including virtual, classroom, laboratory, on-campus, and off-campus locations. Work locations are equipped with standard instructional technology. Instructor positions require frequent interaction with students, faculty, and staff. Occasional travel may be required for professional development, off-campus instruction, or college-related events. Based on the academic discipline, work environments may include exposure to heat, noise, dust, machinery, chemicals, etc., and require appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing for extended periods while lecturing or moving within the classroom.
• Ability to perform fine motor skills, such as frequent keyboarding, using a mouse, or operating standard audiovisual and office equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals and groups.
• Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
• Occasionally must be able to reach, bend, stoop, or kneel to access files, equipment, or classroom materials.
• Ability to observe, judge, and assess students' work, exam performance, classroom behavior, and the thoroughness of assigned tasks.
• Ability to concentrate, focus, and convey complex subject matter effectively, as well as make rapid, logical decisions.
• Ability to travel between campus locations or external sites as needed.
• For Technical Education and Health Science disciplines:
  • Frequently lift or carry up to 50–70 pounds.
  • Perform extended periods of bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or climbing.
  • Wear specialized safety gear and withstand varied environmental conditions.

Schedule

Full-time, 12-month, faculty position. Posted office hours and semester schedule are required and should be sufficient to fulfill all duties, professional obligations, and meet the needs of the college. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required for outreach activities, program support, or professional development.
