Nuclear Security Officer
About the role
The Nuclear Security Officer (NSO) is responsible for ensuring the security of special nuclear material and protecting a nuclear plant from radiological sabotage. Duties include checking buildings for security, performing armed escort and response duties, and operating various security equipment.
Responsibilities
- Tactical armed responder duties and alarm assessment
- Surveillance sentry and vital door guard duties
- Operation of reader and communication equipment
- Conducting vehicle, personnel, and material searches
- Completing physical training qualifications to maintain access
- Working any shift and overtime as required
- Using a variety of security and office equipment
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED
- At least 21 years of age
- A valid driver's license
- Ability to lawfully possess or receive firearms and ammunition
- Successful completion of Plant Access, Safeguards, and Respiratory Protection training
- Passing medical, physical fitness, psychological, cognitive, personality, and security training
- Ability to work rotating shifts, days and nights, including weekends and holidays
- Carrying weapons and completing periodic firearm testing
- Maintaining stringent fitness requirements and completing an annual fitness agility test
- Completing and passing a yearly medical qualification examination
- Obtaining and maintaining unescorted access
- Being clean-shaven and meeting grooming standards
- Wearing the uniform issued by Energy Northwest
- Subject to random alcohol and drug testing
- Passing periodic background and credit screening
- Completing ongoing classroom training, weapons training, and on-the-job training
Qualifications
- Desirable military or security-related work experience
- Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement degree or work experience
- Employment background investigation
Skills
The NSO must be able to perform physical tasks and demonstrate the ability to complete physical training qualifications. They should be familiar with a range of security and office equipment.

Pay
This is a bargaining unit position starting at $33.77 per hour with a step progression every 6 months until reaching the top pay rate of $52.15 per hour at 24 months.
Schedule
The NSO works 12-hour rotating shifts, days and nights, including weekends and holidays.
