Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examination, including positioning and executing nuclear medicine examinations, and assists radiologist/physician with patient care during procedures.
  • Reviews patient medical records to verify physician's order and patient's name and date of birth prior to examination.
  • Cross-trains in other specialty areas/departments/facilities when workload demands to enhance skills outside assigned specialty clinical area.
  • Inspects images for quality and monitors all images for proper patient name, date, and medical record number prior to interpretation by Radiologist.
  • Assists with training new technologists and technical assistants in all phases of assigned procedures, as requested by supervisor/manager/director.
  • Demonstrates competency and observes safety guidelines when operating all specialized equipment in assigned clinical area.
  • Implements Standard Precautions on all patients, as directed by hospital policy.
  • Adjusts to variable schedules and/or procedure techniques that may be required at times.
  • Adheres to MSMC established Personnel Radiation Dosimeter Policy as observed by supervisor and/or reported/documented by the RSO.
  • Reports all equipment malfunctions to lead technologist/supervisor and clinical engineering immediately.
  • Performs Quality Control procedures on nuclear medicine equipment within the specified time frame for each.
  • Performs Area Surveys for possible contamination at the end of each workday followed by appropriate documentation.
  • Maintains and stocks clinical room with appropriate supplies necessary to complete nuclear medicine examinations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and proper use of computer programs, particularly the EPIC and Synapse application systems.
  • Completes exam data entry on all studies performed daily, as well as any other necessary paperwork associated with each case.
  • Attends department staff meetings as scheduled.

Requirements

  • Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) (N) or the Nuclear Medicine Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • Must hold a current Florida Nuclear Medicine License from the Florida Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance.
  • BLS/CPR certification required.
  • Graduate of an AMA Accredited Educational Program for Nuclear Medicine Technology or equivalent.
  • One year of clinical NM experience and/or ability to independently perform routine NM procedures, cardiac procedures, and assist with specialized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
