About the role

As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will prepare and administer diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals under the direction of a Radiologist. You will operate specialized equipment to monitor the characteristics and functions of tissues or organs where radiopharmaceuticals localize and may also operate computed tomography (CT) equipment in conjunction with nuclear medicine procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competence in providing developmentally appropriate care for patient populations including infant, child, adolescent, adult, geriatric, bariatric, and cardiac.
  • Organizes daily workload and orders radiopharmaceuticals and kits as needed.
  • Calculates correct dosages based on age, weight, and physical condition.
  • Receives patients, explains procedures, and assesses pertinent information for exams.
  • Reviews and abstracts data from patient charts.
  • Sets up imaging systems according to current protocols and evaluates scan quality.
  • Schedules patients for nuclear medicine exams.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area, including stocking supplies.
  • Operates imaging systems and related devices, performing quality control procedures.
  • Properly receives radioactive shipments according to DHEC regulations.
  • Processes, distributes, and stores radioactive materials.
  • Starts IVs and injects radiopharmaceuticals/saline for procedures.
  • Assists with patient transport and demonstrates knowledge of fire and safety evacuations.
  • Participates in the Radiation Disaster team and drills.
  • Follows hospital policies for timekeeping, mandatory education, and task completion.
  • Recognizes emergency patient conditions and initiates lifesaving first aid.
  • Reports significant medical errors or unanticipated outcomes in patient care.
  • Adheres to HIPAA guidelines, maintains confidentiality, and follows professional standards.
  • Serves on committees, work teams, and completes other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved School of Nuclear Medicine Technology or equivalent.
  • Current NMTCB and/or ARRT(N) certification; ARRT(CT) or NMTCB-CT certification (or must obtain within 1 year of employment).
  • Current South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association license.
  • Current CPR certification.

Schedule

Full-time, day shift: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
