About the role

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist plays a crucial role in the Imaging Services Team, providing support in performing high-quality radionuclide imaging, therapeutic, and lab procedures to ensure optimal patient care.

Responsibilities

• Organizes, plans, and directs activities related to patients and procedures for designated areas.
• Demonstrates knowledge of physics, scanning techniques, and computer science skills relevant to nuclear scanning.
• Directly responsible for safe and efficient ordering, handling, preparation, administration, and documentation of radioactive isotopes.
• Performs, computes, and calculates test results using appropriate tools to produce specific statistical information.
• Plans and executes procedures considering physiologic and developmental age, serving patients from infancy through geriatric.
• Serves patients aged infants through geriatric, reviewing examinations for proper positioning, technique, and identification according to approved protocols.
• Confirms patient identification using hospital identifiers (name and date of birth).
• Reviews patient questionnaires, doctor’s orders, and requisitions for physician notes and special instructions, discussing with radiologists and patients if necessary, to ensure safety and appropriateness.
• Recognizes emergency situations, indicates codes, and administers aid as needed.
• Performs visual inspections, selects appropriate equipment, and applies immobilization devices as required.
• P Practices sterile technique and prevents cross-contamination to both patient and instruments.
• Records pertinent patient information and completes all paperwork as required, assisting in maintaining files.
• Administers the preparation of reports and isotopes documentation (ordering, storage, and disposal) in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and radiation safety officer recommendations.
• Prepares examinations for interpretation by radiologists, keeping Nuclear Medicine rooms/work areas neat, orderly, and prepared, ensuring exam rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies.
• Assists with ordering and stocking of department supplies and equipment.
• Willingly performs other related duties outside immediate work area as assigned or required (scheduling, QC follow-up, transport, clerical).
• Participates in after-hours uncontrolled standby and call-back.
• May require the use of a pager while on duty and during standby.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Specialized/Technical Training: Satisfactory completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
• Experience: 1 year Nuclear Medicine Technologist experience.
• Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Software.
• Certifications: Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) from NMTCB or R.T.(N)(ARRT) from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CA DPH), Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association, Fire Life Safety Training (LA City).

Pay

The hourly rate range for this position is $53.00 – $87.45.
