About the role

Performs the full spectrum of nuclear medicine procedures following hospital policies and protocol, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. Provides quality patient care and ensures service excellence as evidenced by patient satisfaction scores and testimonials. Protects patient privacy rights under HIPAA and other applicable policies.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient status and identify care requirements relative to age-specific needs.
• Perform all nuclear medicine procedures with high technical expertise and within established protocols.
• Resolve equipment, supply, and patient relations issues to ensure clinically sound treatment and satisfaction.
• Participate in staff, departmental, safety, infection, and haz-mat control meetings.
• Document diagnostic studies, procedures, and relevant patient information per department and hospital policies.
• Maintain required patient records, reports, statistics, and files for effective operation.
• Prepare and administer radioisotope doses according to hospital policies and protocols.
• Operate all nuclear medicine equipment according to established procedures.
• Separate and monitor isotopes for decay prior to disposal.
• Draw blood samples as ordered and prepare/label images for diagnostic interpretation.
• Maintain radiopharmaceutical supplies and requests for formulations.
• Stay updated on emerging nuclear medicine methodologies and apply them appropriately.
• Calibrate equipment, prepare, measure, and administer radiopharmaceuticals under physician direction.
• Perform diagnostic studies using the scintillation camera to produce organ images per hospital procedures.
• Ensure compliance with DHS, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory standards.
• Implement new federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to nuclear medicine services.
• Perform required surveys and quality control of areas and equipment per regulations.
• Participate in Radiation Safety Committee meetings and maintain radiation safety procedures.
• Follow safety procedures and Radioactive Hazard Protocol to prevent accidents.
• Adhere to guidelines for receiving, storing, and disposing of radioactive waste.
• Complete decontamination procedures and area monitoring in case of radiation accidents.
• Report equipment malfunctions to the Manager of Imaging Services for repairs.
• Comply with HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements.
• Participate in quality control and improvement programs.
• Submit quality review and control reports within prescribed timeframes.
• Demonstrate commitment to total quality management and continuous improvement.
• Perform technical tasks courteously and respectfully toward patients and colleagues.
• Contribute to team effectiveness and support hospital’s vision of service excellence.
• Participate in departmental special projects and initiatives.
• Provide assistance and support to physicians utilizing the Nuclear Medicine department.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nuclear medicine technology.
• Minimum of one year’s experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
• Ability to perform all diagnostic studies and procedures in the Nuclear Medicine department.
• Demonstrated knowledge of protocols for handling and disposing of radioactive materials.
• Knowledge of principles of growth and development across the lifespan to provide age-appropriate care.
• Strong interpersonal skills to ensure service excellence in patient care and relationships.
• Ability to document clearly and correctly for accurate patient records.
• Knowledge of decontamination procedures to respond effectively to radiation accidents.
• Experience implementing and following radiation safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire.
• Radiologic Health Nuclear Medicine certification required at hire.
• Integrative Agitation Management (IAM) certification required within 30 days of hire.

Pay

Compensation range: $79.70 - $105.11 per hour.
