NUCLEAR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS INSPECTOR (SHIPS) (TEMP NTE 1 year)

About the role

You will serve as a NUCLEAR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS INSPECTOR (SHIPS) in Nuclear Inspection Division, Code (139) of the Quality Assurance Office of the NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Responsibilities

You will perform electronic, electrical and electro-mechanical inspections, pre-arrival and material condition assessment inspections, in-process, product, pre-test and test inspections.

You will perform receipt inspection, pre-use inspection and mark verification of naval nuclear material ensuring proper material control and traceability is maintained.

You will ensure reactor grade cleanliness is maintained in accordance with local directives as required by NAVSEA specifications for reactor plant cleanliness.

You will maintain records of inspections performed, results of these inspections and corrective action taken in accordance with local directives.

You will ensure safety of ships, equipment, and personnel during the performance of the preceding duties.

You will perform surveillance of ongoing or completed work to ensure compliance with all applicable directives.

Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals).
• You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

• Ability to work with electrical equipment, such as wiring, motors, control equipment, and communications equipment.
• Ability to interpret diagrams, specifications, drawings, and interrelated procedure and technical requirement to most critical job application.
• Ability to apply full journeyman level or higher experience in the marine electronics trades and marine electrical trade or other closely related trades.
• Ability to obtain or possess current nuclear training and qualifications at the full journeyman level.
• Ability to apply knowledge of trade skills such as electronics mechanic and marine electrician.
• Ability to operate with dexterity and safety.
• Ability to apply knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and instruments.
• Ability to work with others where the work depends on cooperation.
