About the role

The Next Step Internship offers an intensive, full-time, eight-week program designed to provide vocational training and on-the-job experience in the homeless services field. Interns will support the residents of shelters through various roles.

Responsibilities

• Residential Aide: Perform day-to-day monitoring of residents' activities, conduct hourly inspections, document/report incidents, and assist in planning and organizing recreational activities.
• Front Desk Attendant: Manage the front desk, answer and direct calls, greet clients/guests, complete health screenings, and direct them. Assist in monthly mailings.
• Custodian: Perform daily tasks such as cleaning sleeping areas, dining spaces, restrooms, stairwells, and public areas, ensuring a clean and safe environment.
• Rehabilitation Aide: Process new intakes in the computer system, file documents, organize client charts, maintain quiet and safety, provide structure, and help organize client activities.

Qualifications

• A High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Interest in working with the homeless population in a shelter setting.
• Currently not employed and open availability to participate in flexible scheduling.
