NSA Summer 2027 Internship Program - Cryptanalysis and Signals Analysis Summer Program- Entry - Maryland
NSA Summer Internship Programs at our Fort Meade, MD location offer students exciting, impactful professional work opportunities to grow their knowledge of the Intelligence Community and federal government while advancing NSA's two primary missions: collecting, analyzing, and producing foreign signals intelligence, and providing cybersecurity solutions and guidance to protect critical national infrastructure.
About the role
The CASA Summer Program is a 12-week summer internship for U.S. citizen undergraduates majoring in mathematics and/or computer science (a background in both is desired). CASA stands for Cryptanalysis and Signals Analysis, an organization within the SIGINT mission. The program draws on operational problems from cryptanalysis and signals analysis, requiring good problem-solving skills and programming but no prior knowledge. Participants will apply logic and programming skills to develop software solutions used within the CASA mission.
Responsibilities
- Work in teams of 2-4 students on operational mission projects.
- Meet weekly as an entire group to discuss project updates.
- Learn about the SIGINT mission and other NSA/IC missions through talks, tours, and visits to other agencies.
- Document technical work and results as needed (usually informally).
- Present your project and results to a technical audience.
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program (undergraduate, graduate, or doctorate) at time of application.
- Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Must be eligible for a TS/SCI security clearance (background investigation, Full-scope Polygraph, and Psychological Evaluation).
- Must be available for interviews and processing (in-person or virtual) between October 2026 and April 2027.
- Must have completed Calculus II and either Linear Algebra or Probability/Statistics by program start.
- Must have experience with at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C/C++, Java).
Preferred majors include:
- Mathematics
- Computer Science
- Statistics
- Data Science
- Physics
Other majors may be considered, but those listed are highly recommended.
Pay
Students are paid a competitive salary commensurate with their education level.

Schedule

- Daily transportation to and from work is not provided; students are encouraged to bring a vehicle (carpooling may be available but is not guaranteed).
