NSA Summer 2027 Internship Program - Colorado Summer Program - Entry

Join students from across the country and lend your knowledge to national security in one of NSA's summer internship programs. These 12-week paid programs run from mid-May to mid-August and are open to undergraduate freshman up to Ph.D. students. Internships are available in multiple mission areas, including computer science, programming, and engineering, offering hands-on experience with mission-critical problems.

Responsibilities

The NSA Summer Internship Programs at our Denver, CO location offer students impactful professional work opportunities to grow their knowledge of the Intelligence Community and federal government while advancing NSA's two primary missions:

• Collecting, analyzing, and producing foreign signals intelligence
• Providing cybersecurity solutions and guidance to protect critical national infrastructure

Interns work in a highly energetic, mobile, and challenging team environment focused on real-time protection of troops and providing critical information for national-level decisions.

Software Engineer Internship Positions

• Analyze user/customer requirements related to software and/or software system design
• Build software prototypes
• Design, develop, and debug software applications
• Troubleshoot and debug computer code

Target Analyst Internship Positions

• Conduct analysis of metadata
• Conduct target analysis
• Conduct target research

Installations & Logistics Internship Positions

• Cargo Movement and Logistics
• Inventory Management
• Facilities Management
• Customer Service

About the Program

The Colorado Summer Internship Program is a 12-week internship for high-potential, full-time college students. Interns gain hands-on work experience while building knowledge and skills in fundamental aspects of the NSA mission. Interns are hired on a Temporary Appointment for up to 12 weeks and must reapply yearly for subsequent summers.

Opportunities include working on real mission solutions, leading projects, and briefing leadership. The program supports professional development and offers a "once-in-a-lifetime" experience.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program (undergraduate, graduate, doctorate) at time of application
• Specific education requirements vary by program
• Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Must be eligible to be granted a TS/SCI security clearance after successfully completing a background investigation, a Full-scope Polygraph, and a Psychological Evaluation
• Must be available and in the U.S. for operational and technical interviews and other applicable processing, both in-person and via telephone/internet, between the months of October 2026 and April 2027

Other majors may be considered, though the listed majors are highly recommended. Candidates may be required to complete an Unproctored Internet Testing (UIT) measuring cognitive ability, motivation, and English proficiency.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

• Students are paid a competitive salary commensurate with their education level
• All internships are 10–12 weeks during the summer (mid-May to mid-August)
• Receive annual leave, sick leave, and paid federal holidays
• Students attending school in excess of 75 miles from Denver, CO are eligible for housing accommodations and travel entitlements (round-trip airfare or mileage reimbursement up to the cost of a government-issued ticket)
• Daily transportation to and from work is not provided; students are encouraged to bring a vehicle (carpooling may be available but is not guaranteed)
• Participation in agency-wide extracurricular programs
