NPD Textile Intern - Summer 2027

About the role

Fenner Precision Polymers has an exciting internship opportunity with the Fenner New Product Textile Engineering Team at Manheim/Lititz, PA. The successful candidate will be responsible for product/process/testing needs for the textile product category. As part of the New Product Development Team, you will be responsible for collaborating with various departments to:

• Conduct lab testing on technical textiles according to product development needs
• 3D model new fixtures or product models to enhance product understanding
• Develop proficiency in emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to support project work, data analysis, content creation, and operational efficiency under the guidance of team leaders
• Learn components and processes of rapier looms
• Technical documentation: Updating specs to new format
• Product validation – mechanical properties like tensile, tear, EPI, PPI, weight, etc.
• 3D modeling of weave patterns
• R&D projects
• Alternative fabrics – quartz, MWPE, etc. – applications, testing

Skills

• Demonstrated ability to 3D model in Solidworks
• Record and interpret measured properties of lab tests
• Proven skills in mechanical engineering principles – stress, strain, coefficient of friction, etc.
• Statistical analysis of test results
• Working knowledge of basic lab equipment and software – MTS, hot presses, Microsoft package, etc.
• Novel problem solving

Education

A minimum of 2 years of college in a related field.
