NP/PA- Pulmonology Clinic

Erlanger is seeking a Pulmonology Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join its outpatient pulmonology clinic in Chattanooga, TN. This clinic-based, weekday-only position provides comprehensive care to adult patients with a wide variety of chronic and acute pulmonology conditions.

About the role

The APP will work collaboratively with board-certified pulmonologists and an interdisciplinary care team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in an ambulatory setting. This role is ideal for an APP who enjoys continuity of care, chronic disease management, and patient education, with a strong interest in pulmonology medicine.

The Intensivist Nurse Practitioners will work in the critical care office and provide comprehensive outpatient evaluation and management of patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions. The clinic focuses on evidence-based care for conditions such as COPD, asthma, chronic cough, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary nodules, and other complex pulmonary disorders, emphasizing continuity of care and long-term disease management.

The department is staffed by experienced, board-certified pulmonologists and supported by advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, nursing staff, and care coordinators who work collaboratively to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the team prioritizes patient education, preventive care, and individualized treatment plans to optimize respiratory health and improve patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in the outpatient pulmonology clinic for adult patients with chronic and acute respiratory conditions.
• Supervise and provide direct patient care in the inpatient setting for patients diagnosed with multi-system conditions, including respiratory disease, illness, and failure, as well as general medical care for patients admitted to other specialty services.
• Promptly recognize acute changes in patient status necessitating emergent changes in the plan of care.
• Collaborate closely with ancillary departments to ensure appropriate and timely work-up and disposition of all patients.
• Serve as a role model and resource to nursing and outpatient office staff, providing ongoing education as needed.
• Provide patient education on an ongoing basis.
• Maintain current credentialing, privileges, CEU requirements, licensure, and certification as required.
• Act as a liaison between outpatient clinic physicians, Critical Care Intensivists, Hospitalist services, and Primary Care physicians to coordinate patient care services, optimize patient care, and maximize resource utilization.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Board certified as FNP, AGACNP, ANP, or PA-C.
• Tennessee licensure (or ability to obtain prior to start).
• DEA license (or eligibility to obtain).
• Prior experience in pulmonary, internal medicine, family medicine, or related specialty preferred.
• Strong clinical assessment, communication, and patient education skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Tennessee.
• Licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in the state of Tennessee.
• National certification as either an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
• Certificate of fitness from the state of Tennessee (as required by specialty).
• BLS certification completed prior to going to the unit/department and maintained thereafter.
• ACLS certification required.
• DEA number with the ability to prescribe schedules II, III, IV, V.
• Preferred: Critical Care, Emergency Department, or Cardiology experience.

Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.
