About the Role
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant operates as an established medical authority through a collaborative care agreement with physicians and surgeons.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and records patient’s history, performs physical examinations, and formulates treatment plans for patients.
- Participates in management of patient’s care, both in- and out-patient, by facilitating, expediting, and coordinating routine diagnostic procedures, writing orders for appropriate medical care, and determining need for consultation.
- Takes call with physician.
- Assists surgeon in the operating room.
- Assists the entire team with additional duties throughout the office as necessary.
- Triages patient calls and calls patients back in conjunction with physician.
- Contacts all patients postoperatively as required for follow-up.
Qualifications
- 1 year of experience in primary care, emergency room, surgery, or occupational medicine settings is required (new graduates welcome).
- Graduation from an accredited Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the American Medical Association.
- Strong clinical judgment, willingness to learn, and ability to work within a collaborative care team.
Certification/Licensure
- For Physician Assistants: PA-C certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA) and licensure by the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners (OBME).
- For Nurse Practitioners: Licensure by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) and RN licensure by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon start.
- Advance Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (if applicable, based on specialty).
- Must obtain and maintain medical staff membership and appropriate privileges.
- Must be eligible as a provider for Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health programs.
- Must meet all qualifications to participate in the hospital's programs for professional malpractice and other liability coverage.
