NP/PA - Inpatient Gastroenterology - MGH

About the role

This is a full-time role on the MGH Main Campus. The Gastroenterology APP will provide consultative expertise to requesting providers on primary medical/surgical teams for patients admitted to any inpatient unit throughout MGH, follow the patient throughout the admission as needed, assist the primary team with input on adjustments to the care plan, and assist with scheduling outpatient GI follow‑up care. The APP will work closely with the Inpatient Gastroenterology Pancreatic Biliary Service attending physician(s), GI fellows, other GI APPs, nurses, and the gastroenterology team to coordinate care, document GI consultation/follow‑up notes in EPIC (including billing), carry the Interventional service pager during daytime, triage incoming consults/pages, and work with the attending to distribute consults appropriately.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural settings.
• Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
• Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
• Develops appropriate plans of care and follow‑up based on diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
• Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
• Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries.
• Performs bedside procedures as appropriate to the patient population.

Requirements

• Education: Master's Degree Physician Assistant required.
• Licenses and Credentials: Physician Assistant, MA.
• Experience: 2 years of experience as a PA required.

• Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
• Ability to maintain quality control standards.
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
• Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

Pay

Pay Range: $135,720 - $173,867.20 Annual (Grade 7).

Schedule

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40. Work Shift: Day (United States of America). Onsite at 55 Fruit Street, MGH Main Campus.
