About the Role

Assists in the evaluation and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. This role involves conducting patient interviews, documenting medical histories, performing physical examinations, and assisting with specialized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Responsibilities

• Documents the delivery of care in individual medical records.
• Conducts patient interviews and documents histories, psychosocial backgrounds, health status, and medical or potential problems.
• Performs physical examinations and specialized diagnostic/therapeutic procedures (e.g., cast application/removal, wound suturing, dressing changes) under physician direction.
• Assists in diagnosing medical problems, developing care plans, and prescribing treatment.
• Orders, schedules, and performs laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures (e.g., urinalyses, blood tests, x-rays).
• Communicates procedure details, preparation, and anticipated effects to patients.
• Collaborates with physicians to arrange consultations or referrals to other medical professionals or community services.
• Educates patients on health habits, self-examinations, behavior management, follow-up care, at-home medical care, and medication.
• Works with management to formulate professional development plans.
• Attends educational in-services and participates in professional activities to maintain current knowledge.
• Maintains and updates accurate patient records, including medical assessments, interventions, and evaluations.
• Collects and interprets diagnostic data to implement appropriate care plans.
• Prepares statistical reports and analyses for research projects and investigational protocols.
• Trains and teaches healthcare professionals, including students and residents, in specialized techniques.
• Actively participates in organizational health services committees.
• Performs related responsibilities as required.

Requirements

• Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program or Physician Assistant program.
• Currently licensed as an advanced practice nurse in Georgia by the Georgia Board of Nursing and certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or equivalent body, or certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• Licensed as appropriate in the state of Georgia.
• May require at least one year of direct experience in one or more high-acuity clinical specialties.
• PALS, BLS, or ACLS certification may be required in some areas.

Physical Requirements

• Lifting: 20–50 lbs occasionally (0–33% of the workday), 11–25 lbs frequently (34–66% of the workday), 0–10 lbs constantly (67–100% of the workday). Maximum lifting: 50 lbs.
• Carrying: Objects up to 25 lbs.
• Postures: Occasional to frequent standing and walking; occasional sitting.
• Eye Work: Close tasks (computers, typing, reading, writing).
• Physical demands may vary by assigned work area and tasks.

Environmental Factors

• Exposure to blood-borne pathogens, bio-hazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, patient handling injuries, radiation, shift work, and travel may be required.
• Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, may be necessary.
• Environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and tasks.
