NP or PA - Cardiology - Fredericksburg, VA

The Nurse Practitioner provides clinical services to programs and patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role involves delivering formal and informal care, education, and participating in the review and development of policies, procedures, and practice guidelines. The incumbent must demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and an understanding of interdependent roles within allied health professions.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with physicians to counsel patients and family members about diagnoses, testing, and procedural risks.
• Perform comprehensive health assessments to diagnose and treat individuals.
• Formulate differential diagnoses, develop treatment plans including diagnostics, non-pharmacological interventions, pharmacological agents, and education based on patient priorities.
• Provide relevant patient and family education; make appropriate referrals to other professionals and community agencies.
• Order and provide preliminary interpretation of diagnostic studies.
• Prescribe non-pharmacological therapies and pharmacological agents within the defined scope of service and established guidelines.
• Demonstrate effective organizational, prioritization, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Provide emergency treatments and initiate life-saving measures per ACLS guidelines.
• Meet all requirements of the practice agreement with the supervising physician under Virginia state regulations.

Delineation of Privileges

• Obtain, record, and dictate medical histories.
• Perform, record, and dictate physical examinations.
• Make daily rounds, record progress notes, write routine comfort and diet orders, order laboratory tests and non-invasive examinations, write approved routine orders, and change dressings.
• Prepare patients for discharge, dictate discharge and transfer summaries.
• Evaluate patients requiring cardiology consults.
• Perform clinical procedures such as applying/changing dressings, removing sutures/staples, venipunctures, inserting IV needles/catheters.

Communication

• Educate patients/families regarding disease, procedures, medication, nutrition, healthcare, and post-discharge care.
• Dictate letters to physicians and patients.
• Act as liaison between patients, physicians, nursing, and health agencies.
• Request consults and make/receive phone calls for information, advice, and triage.

Other Duties

• Maintain statistics and complete insurance/home health forms.
• Maintain written materials; teach use of devices and special equipment to personnel and patients.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse licensed to practice in Virginia or eligible, required.
• MSN, required.
• Current Virginia state certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner, required.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR certification, required.
• Recent adult medical-surgical experience (5 years preferred).
• Ability to work effectively in emergency situations and under stress.
• Proficient leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team.

Pay

Pay Range: $54.52 - $73.26 per hour.
