Executive Director Healthy Schools Network, Inc. Washington, DC (hybrid/remote) $60,000–$65,000/year (20 hrs/week), commensurate with experience About Healthy Schools Network Healthy Schools Network (HS Network) is the nation’s leading voice for children’s environmental health in K–12 schools. Since 1995, HS Network has advanced policies and practices that reduce environmental hazards and support safe, healthy, and climate-resilient learning environments. We work at the intersection of public health, education, and environmental policy, partnering with families, schools, advocates, and government agencies to drive meaningful change nationwide. The Opportunity Healthy Schools Network seeks a strategic, mission-driven Executive Director to lead the organization into its next phase. This is a unique leadership role for someone who can: Translate science and environmental health into actionable policy and practiceBuild and sustain national coalitions and partnershipsLead a small but influential organization with clarity, discipline, and creativity The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for overall leadership, including strategy, programs, fundraising, communications, and operations. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Lead organizational strategy and priority-setting in collaboration with the BoardStrengthen HS Network’s role as a national leader in children’s environmental healthEngage partners and stakeholders to advance policy and practice Advocacy and Programs Advance federal, state, and local policies on school environmental healthOversee programs, research, and technical assistanceLead coalition efforts and national initiatives Fundraising and Financial Management Develop and implement fundraising strategiesOversee budget, financial systems, and grant complianceMaintain relationships with funders and partners Coalitions and Communications Lead and expand national coalitionsServe as spokesperson to policymakers, media, and partnersOversee communications, including publications and digital platforms Organizational Management Oversee staff, contractors, and consultantsEnsure operational effectiveness and complianceWork closely with the Board to support governance and planning Qualifications We recognize that strong candidates may bring varied backgrounds. We are most interested in individuals who possess: Significant leadership experience in nonprofit, policy, public health, or advocacy settingsAbility to translate complex issues into clear, persuasive messagesExperience building partnerships and coalitionsStrong organizational and financial management capabilityCommitment to children’s environmental health, equity, and public serviceBachelors or Masters Degree in public health, public administration/policy, environment, or related degree (not required, but highly valued).
