NOVA SUPERVISOR
About the role
Domestic Violence Services (DVS) is a program within the Human Resources Administration (HRA) that oversees a network of over 54 emergency domestic violence shelters, providing safety and support services to survivors and their families. This position is in the NoVA Unit, which focuses on addressing the special needs of victims of domestic violence applying for assistance or residing in the Department of Homeless Services shelter system.
Responsibilities
- Supervise Social Workers stationed in DHS facilities and PATH who provide counseling and referrals to domestic violence shelters, information about entitlements, and a wide range of other services.
- Provide regularly scheduled and extemporaneous clinical supervision to Social Work staff on their assigned cases.
- Handle emergencies or special problems by providing guidance or assuming responsibility for the case.
- Assign cases and regularly monitor the maintenance of current, clear, and complete case records.
- Review completed Screening/Assessments for correctness.
- Maintain internal administrative controls for tracking and expediting actions and forms on each referral.
- Collaborate with the Director on the planning and provision of staff training; instructs new staff under direct supervision on policies and procedures.
- Prepare annual staff evaluations.
Requirements
- A Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work and one year of full-time satisfactory experience practicing social work utilizing one or a combination of casework, group work, and community organization methodologies.
- A valid Certified Social Worker (CSW) certificate or Licensed Master of Social Work license (LMSW) issued by the New York State Department of Education must be obtained within one year of the date of appointment.
- The position is open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a Program.
Qualifications
- Experience in supervising Social Workers and providing clinical supervision.
- Ability to handle emergencies and provide guidance or assume responsibility for cases.
- Knowledge of social work methodologies and experience in counseling and referrals.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Ability to prepare and conduct staff evaluations.
Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using computer software for case management and record keeping.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations regarding domestic violence and social work.
Benefits
Includes participation in the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and the New York State Teachers' Retirement System (NYSTRS).
Pay
$100,000 - $120,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

10am-6pm flex
