Nottoli Place (SSH2) - Day & Swing Support Staff - Variable Hour

About the role

VOA, a Certified Great Place to Work, is recruiting to fill variable hour, day and swing Support Staff positions for the Nottoli Place team in Sacramento, CA. This 15-bed shelter provides a safe place for seniors struggling with homelessness, offering case management and housing assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Ongoing source of engagement, information sharing, and problem-solving for clients using trauma-informed, strength-based, compassionate, and professional approaches.
  • Explain program requirements and regulations to new clients and assure compliance.
  • Continually reorients clients to rules, rights, and responsibilities.
  • Cook and serve meals, assign rooms, and manage daily routines.
  • Maintain campus security and safety, including responding to emergencies.
  • Clean and sanitize common areas and staff areas, including restrooms and laundry.
  • Assure toiletry and cleaning supplies are stocked and secure.
  • Address behavior issues and de-escalate crises.
  • Take client issues to the Program Director and document concerns.
  • Model positive and professional behavior.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain daily reports and logs.
  • Attend staff meetings and training, complete certifications, and identify training needs.
  • Participate in program development and assist in training new staff.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of issues and challenges unique to homelessness, substance abuse, young adults, minorities, and persons with disabilities.
  • Specific knowledge and experience with the housing first approach, addiction and recovery, and dysfunctional family dynamics are preferred.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and function independently and in a team environment.
  • Tact, discretion, and resourcefulness are required at all times.
  • Computer skills required.
  • CPR and First Aid training within ninety (90) days of employment, re-certification as necessary, and T.B. testing annually.
  • A valid California driver’s license and ability to meet the organization's insurance carrier guidelines are preferred.
  • Criminal background check required.

Qualifications

  • Physical abilities to lift and move up to 50 pounds, perform repetitive movements, stand, walk, bend, stoop, sit, kneel, and climb stairs.
