About the Role
Under general supervision of the electronic vital records system manager, performs complex clerical work at a full-time performance level coding and editing the causes of death on death certificates and processing birth, marriage, and death information prior to being entered into the computer and microfilmed.
Uses classification of diseases, injuries, and causes of death and other national and international rules and governing coding procedures. Assigns state file numbers, edits marriage records for completion, oversees transfer and receipt of birth and death certificates between agencies, and provides technical assistance to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Cross-matches infant deaths with corresponding birth certificates. Performs related work as required.
Requirements
- Graduation from a standard high school or the equivalent.
- Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in general clerical work involving coding and indexing paperwork.
- One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience of on-the-job training in the vital statistics section of the Department of Health and Human Resources.
Training & Development
After a year of on-the-job training, the Division of Health will provide advanced training by the National Center for Disease Control.
