About the role

The Northeast Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (NEAFWA), in partnership with the Wildlife Management Institute (WMI), seeks a qualified professional to provide regional coordination and project management support for a multi-state initiative to advance habitat connectivity across the Northeast. This position will strengthen the state-led institutional platform needed to coordinate connectivity work across the 13-state NEAFWA region. The coordinator will anchor the initiative within NEAFWA’s Northeast Landscape Conservation Committee, facilitate sustained engagement with federal agencies and other regional partners and networks, support the development of collaborative projects, and maintain consistent coordination among state agencies, federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, researchers, and other partners. The coordinator will help translate regional priorities into coordinated action while respecting the authorities and conservation priorities of individual states and participating organizations. The position will emphasize institutional coordination, partnership development, project management, and implementation support that builds upon the extensive connectivity efforts underway, rather than creating a separate regional planning process. The coordinator will be employed as a partner-based employee of WMI but will be supervised by a NEAFWA representative appointed by the NEAFWA President.

Responsibilities

  • Support coordination among NEAFWA member states on regional habitat-connectivity priorities, projects, and funding opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary staff support for connectivity work undertaken through NEAFWA’s Northeast Landscape Conservation Committee.
  • Organize and facilitate meetings among state agencies, federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, and other regional partners, including preparing agendas, documenting decisions, and tracking follow-up actions.
  • Maintain regular communication among participating states and partners to share information, identify common needs, and connect complementary efforts.
  • Help states identify opportunities for multi-state collaboration and connect them with nonprofit and federal partners that can provide relevant expertise, capacity, or resources.
  • Support the development of high impact collaborative, multi-state projects by clarifying objectives, partner roles, work plans, timelines, budgets, and next steps.
  • Assist partners with concept papers, grant proposals, scopes of work, compliance, and other materials needed to advance priority projects.
  • Track regional activities, project milestones, partner commitments, and funding opportunities, and prepare concise progress updates for NEAFWA and project partners.
  • Coordinate with related regional and subregional connectivity efforts such as the Staying Connected Initiative to strengthen alignment and avoid duplication.
  • Perform other related coordination and project management duties as needed to support the regional initiative.
