North Dakota Parks and Recreation Seasonal Trail Maintenance

Duties and Tasks

  • Perform seasonal maintenance on motorized and non-motorized trail systems.
  • Mow, trim, clear brush, remove debris, and maintain trail corridors.
  • Assist with trail surface repair, grading, resurfacing, erosion control, and drainage work.
  • Assist with installation, repair, and maintenance of trail signage, markers, and related trail features.
  • Operate assigned vehicles, mowers, UTVs/ATVs, trailers, small engine tools, or other trail maintenance equipment as trained and authorized.
  • Load, haul, place, spread, and compact materials as assigned.
  • Conduct basic equipment checks, cleaning, greasing, fluid checks, and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Perform other related seasonal trail maintenance duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to perform outdoor physical labor in varying weather and trail conditions.
  • Ability to work independently with remote supervision.
  • Ability to communicate regularly and reliably with an off-site supervisor regarding work progress, weather impacts, trail conditions, equipment needs, and safety concerns.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to travel to assigned work locations; limited overnight travel may be required.
  • Ability to safely operate or learn to operate assigned tools and equipment, subject to training, supervisor approval, and applicable federal and state labor laws.
  • Ability to work on a flexible, weather-dependent schedule with no guarantee of weekly hours.
  • Applicants must be legally eligible to perform the essential duties assigned to the position and must be able to comply with all applicable child labor, safety, travel, and equipment operation requirements.
  • Applicants must be able to:
    • Walk and work on uneven, steep, muddy, or rugged terrain.
    • Bend, lift, carry, push, pull up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor.
    • Work outdoors for extended periods.
    • Safely use assigned tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment
