North Carolina National Guard Public Affairs Intern (Fall 2026) at NC Department of Public Safety
About the role
This internship is for a part time intern Fall 2026) with the Public Affairs Office at the North Carolina National Guard (NCNG), which is a division of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NCDPS). This internship is expected to start on August 24, 2026, and last through October 23, 2026. The work schedule is part time, up to 30 hours per week Monday-Thursday (8am-5pm). The rate of pay is $15.00 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Developing and writing stories highlighting NC NG soldiers and airmen
- Gathering good news stories across the North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) in both visual and written form
- Producing products to be used on NCNG social media sites
- Working closely with social media managers to improve data mining process
- Working with the NCNG Visual Information Office on gathering and recording product to include photos and video for short- and long-range video production products
- Working with the media manager to improve media relations between NCNG and different NC media outlets
- Working with the Community Relations Officer to assist with two public relations events.
Requirements
The selected intern will be required to provide a letter of recommendation from a professional reference or academic advisor/professor before being hired. Interns will be hired through Temporary Solutions, which operates as the State’s temporary employment agency. As a temporary position there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position.
Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled in college or a recent college graduate
- Must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, English or other related fields
