Responsibilities
- Own and execute the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Perform and review account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and completeness across all balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Manage accounts payable and payroll administration, ensuring timely processing, accuracy, and compliance with internal policies.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements, management reporting, and supporting schedules.
- Complete grant and donor reporting, including preparation of financial reporting required by funders and stakeholders.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial policies to support compliance and financial integrity.
- Cook up the annual audit process, serving as the primary point of contact for external auditors and preparing requested documentation.
- Support preparation of Form 990 reporting and assist with other compliance-related filings.
- Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support financial planning and decision-making.
- Monitor cash flow and cash management activities, including short-term forecasting and banking coordination.
- Identify and implement process improvements to streamline accounting operations and reporting.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support organizational initiatives and ensure financial accuracy across departments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong ownership of the full accounting cycle.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting practices and GAAP.
- Experience with nonprofit, association, healthcare, education, or other mission-driven organizations preferred.
- Familiarity with grant accounting and Form 990 preparation strongly preferred.
- Must have experience in QuickBooks and advanced knowledge of Excel.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate across departments.
