About the role

Millerbernd is hiring an NDT Quality Technician 2 for the 2nd or Weekend shift at our Winsted facility. In this role, you will test and inspect products throughout the production process to make sure they meet required codes, standards, quality, and safety expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Test and inspect products throughout the production process to ensure they meet required codes, standards, quality, and safety expectations.
  • Perform visual, penetrant, ultrasonic, and magnetic particle tests on metal parts to determine if parts meet nondestructive specifications.
  • Conduct visual, penetrant, ultrasonic, and magnetic particle tests on metal parts to determine if parts meet nondestructive specifications.
  • Apply agents, such as cleaners, penetrants, and developers, and couplant to parts.
  • Determine test equipment settings according to type of metal, thickness, distance from test equipment, and related variables, using standard formulas.
  • Set up equipment to perform tests, and conduct tests on parts, following procedures established for specified tests performed.
  • Interpret and evaluate test results against designated standards, utilizing knowledge of metals and testing experience in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, or procedures.
  • Prepare reports outlining findings and conclusions.
  • Initiate accept/reject decisions and know when to call more qualified individuals for marginal evaluations.
  • Absorb and apply on-the-job training to advance your skill level.
  • Collaborate with other NDT personnel and provide on-the-job training and guidance as needed.
  • Ensure use of safe work procedures and wear all required PPE.
  • Promptly report all injuries and unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain a favorable working relationship with coworkers to promote a cooperative working climate conducive to maximum productivity, efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Participate and support Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain 5S guidelines.
  • Communicate relevant information and concerns positively and effectively to others in a timely manner.
  • Perform work at the appropriate pace to maintain quality and productivity requirements.

Qualifications

  • Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of completing assigned work.
  • Enter job data in production tracking system.
  • Seek and perform alternate, productive tasks to keep busy during unexpected down time.
  • Use crane, hoist, forklift or other material handling equipment to transport materials and product into and out of the work area as required.
  • Proficient knowledge in interpreting blueprints, mechanical drawings, schematic diagrams and welding symbols.
  • Experience interpreting codes, standards, and specifications to designate and apply examinations methods, techniques, and procedures to be used; and to verify the adequacy of procedures.
  • Computer literate; particularly in word processing, spreadsheet, email, and shop floor control, applications.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and make decisions within a set of guidelines.
  • Ability to read and understand required internal manufacturing paperwork.
  • Effective and appropriate oral communication skills including legible handwriting in English.
  • Work with others as part of a high performance team.
  • Able to work under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or procedures.
  • Follow standard MMC and customer specified welding procedures and practices.
  • Able to work in, on, or around equipment and machinery.
  • Must be able to work in, on, or around equipment and machinery.

Skills

Pay

$28.05 – 33.00 per hour (non-exempt)

Schedule

Shift Schedule: 2nd shift Monday – Thursday 3pm – 1am or Weekend shift Friday - Sunday 5am - 5pm
Shift Differential: 2nd shift – $1.50/hour, Weekend shift - $2.50/hour

Physical Demands

This position requires the individual to wear and work in company-provided personal protective equipment (PPE). This position requires that the individual can lift a minimum of 50lbs. And, if applicable, can maneuver large, cumbersome equipment with the use of an overhead crane and/or forklift. Must be able to work in, on, or around equipment and machinery. The employee may need to perform work with the use of ladders.
