About the role
You will serve as a NONDESTRUCTIVE TEST INSPECTOR in the NON-NUCLEAR INSPECTION and NDT DIVISION, QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Responsibilities
- Perform nondestructive testing and analysis on mechanical components, piping systems, and structural assemblies.
- Inspect nuclear reactor plant components.
- Determine the internal integrity of main hydraulic systems, auxiliary sea water systems, and propulsion systems.
- Complete and maintain detailed test records that are subject to audit.
- Perform calibration and safety checks of test equipment prior to and after performance of inspections.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
- May be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- May be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements.
- May require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
- Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
- Ability to inspect.
- Must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.

Additional Information
- This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
- A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
- ICTAP applicants: To be considered well-qualified and exercise selection priority as an ICTAP candidate, displaced Federal employees must satisfy all qualification requirements for the position and receive a rating in the highly qualified category (score 85) or higher.
