About the Lee Caplin School of Journalism and Media

The Lee Caplin School of Journalism and Media at Florida International University is a professional journalism and media education unit within FIU's College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts, located on the Biscayne Bay Campus in North Miami, Florida. It provides undergraduate and graduate programs that emphasize hands-on, experiential training in areas such as digital journalism, multimedia production, broadcasting, and media communication.

Position Description

The Lee Caplin School of Journalism and Media in the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts at Florida International University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure earning position at the Assistant Teaching Professor or Associate Teaching Professor rank, starting in August 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in digital video and multimedia, data visualization, and related emerging media areas.
  • Mentoring students in professional digital video and multimedia, teaching data visualization principles and practices grounded in real-world applications.
  • Maintaining an active, collaborative presence within the School, College, and University.
  • Contributing to curriculum development and interdisciplinary initiatives.

  • Helping shape the future of media education through industry-aligned, experiential learning opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A graduate degree (M.A, M.S, M.F.A., Ph.D., or equivalent) in Digital Media, Communication, Journalism, Interactive or Immersive Media combined with professional experience and/or teaching in one or more of the following areas: digital video and multimedia, data visualization, artificial intelligence in media, and emerging media technologies including AR/VR/MR/XR.
  • Experience with curriculum development and industry engagement.
