Non-faculty Activity Sponsor-Anticipated Positions (2026-27 School Year)
About the Role
The Activity Sponsor designs and implements program activities based on an analysis of the opposition's strategies, strengths, and weaknesses. This role involves supervising students during all aspects of the program, using sound instructional techniques, serving as a positive role model, and potentially acting as a liaison between the school, community, and various organizations. Positions are available at the High School or Middle School level.
Responsibilities
- Assess students to provide feedback on individual performance and determine activity placement.
- Attend meetings, workshops, and conferences to receive and convey information related to the role.
- Conduct supporting activities such as parent orientations, recognition events, and banquets to provide program information and recognize accomplishments.
- Develop strategies and plans to prepare teams and individual students for competition.
- Create team and individual practice regimes to enhance and improve performance.
- Evaluate facilities for potential hazards or inadequate equipment and implement modifications or recommendations to reduce injury risk.
- Guide other activity sponsors in instructional techniques, practice organization, supervision guidelines, and responsibilities.
- Identify program needs and recommend expenditures for activities, equipment, and supplies to enhance the program.
- Implement practice schedules and related events to ensure efficient program operation.
- Instruct students to promote individual growth in skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Maintain records such as student statistics, insurance, permission forms, emergency information, schedules, and equipment inventories to comply with district, conference, and state requirements.
- Manage the overall activity program to ensure continuity across all levels (freshman, junior varsity, and varsity) and provide program accountability.
- Monitor students’ academic eligibility to comply with district requirements and provide appropriate interventions (e.g., counseling, tutoring) for students needing assistance.
- Oversee assistant sponsors, student managers, and volunteers by providing direction and monitoring activities.
- Perform personnel-related functions such as interviewing, assessing, and recommending staff to address position needs.
- Perform other related duties to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
- Promote the program by conducting off-season clinics, sharing information on skill camps, and attending community meetings to increase interest and participation.
- Respond to inquiries from students, parents, school personnel, media, and college representatives to provide information, assistance, and direction.
- Supervise students during all areas of participation (e.g., competition, travel, meetings, practices) to ensure a safe environment with minimal risk of injury.
- Support other program staff, including head sponsors, other sponsors, and volunteers, to assist in their roles.
- Analyze opposition strategies before and during events to assess strengths and weaknesses and develop game plans.
Requirements
- Skills required to perform multiple, technical tasks with occasional need to upgrade skills for changing job conditions. Competencies include:

- Ability to schedule activities, meetings, and events; gather, collate, and classify data; and use basic job-related equipment. Flexibility to work independently with diverse individuals and data. Problem-solving skills to identify issues and create action plans. Competencies include:

Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
Working Environment
The role requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The job involves 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. Work is performed under some temperature extremes and conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
