Non-Destructive Testing Trainee (X-Ray) - 2nd Shift

About the role

Successfully complete formal and informal Radiation Safety and X-Ray Technician Level I and II Training. Assist certified radiographers in the performance of radiographic operations including selection of appropriate techniques, positioning of materials, exposure of film, etc. to identify and assess defects in castings and weldments.

Perform darkroom procedures to develop film. Learn interpretation of film results to determine whether parts pass or fail inspection based on knowledge of defect seriousness, codes, standards and customer specifications. Prepare necessary documentation of inspection process.

Move parts by hand and using forklifts, hoists and other lifting equipment, to facilitate inspection. Learn radiation safety policies and procedures to ensure the safety of MetalTek personnel and the public. Obtain certification(s) and perform or assist in other NDT disciplines as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist certified radiographers in radiographic operations (technique selection, material positioning, film exposure).
• Perform darkroom procedures to develop film.
• Interpret film results to determine part acceptance based on defect seriousness, codes, standards, and customer specifications.
• Prepare documentation of the inspection process.
• Move parts using forklifts, hoists, and other lifting equipment.
• Learn and adhere to radiation safety policies and procedures.
• Obtain certifications and assist in other NDT disciplines as needed.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED; post-High School education in NDT or a technical field preferred.
• Ability to learn and practice W.C. and N.R.C. Radiation Operating, Emergency, & Security Procedures.
• Ability to learn and complete certification to RT Level II, SNT-TC-1A, NAS-410, MIL-STD-2132, NAVSEA Tech Pub. 010/271.
• Able to follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
• Strong work ethic, excellent verbal and written communication skills, high attention to detail, and team-oriented.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Pay

$21.86 - $32.81 per hour.
