About the role

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft, tactical reconnaissance radars, and advanced high-resolution surveillance systems. The NDI Quality Inspector IV performs nondestructive testing to verify the structural integrity of composite flight hardware using conventional and automated ultrasonic, radiographic, Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT), and other NDI test methods such as Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI). The role involves evaluating test results by analyzing and interpreting data in accordance with customer requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake training in NDI methods to achieve Level 2 certification in Eddy Current, Fluorescent Penetrant, Radiographic, Magnetic Particle, and Ultrasonic Testing to Specification NAS-410.
  • Implement procedures, instructions, and techniques as required.
  • Perform control checks on test method capability.
  • Document and advise local team members of test outcomes.
  • Review and implement customer requirements, including engineering drawings, process specifications, and other industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain processes, test methodology, and procedures.
  • Understand manufacturing methods and part construction as they relate to NDI data.
  • Operate ultrasonic equipment, such as A-scan and resonance scopes, phased array equipment, and automated scanning systems.
  • Operate test equipment, including robotic scanners and computed radiography data acquisition systems, as well as eddy current scopes and CT gantry systems.
  • Identify and investigate new technologies, processes, and procedures to maintain or improve NDI capabilities and efficiencies.
  • Interface with engineers, internal and external customers, manufacturing personnel, and management to improve processes.
  • Provide guidance, leadership, and instruction to other NDI technicians.
  • Integrate improvements to realize benefits in cost, cycle time, and customer satisfaction.
  • Perform other assignments and tasks as directed.

Requirements

  • Completed formal NDI training and experience requirements in multiple methods, with documented previous Level 2 or 3 certification per Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) AIA-NAS-410 or SNT-TC-1A certification guidelines.
  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, military training, or equivalent qualification in NDT inspection methods.
  • Skills, knowledge, and experience to effectively communicate complex processes and procedures to lower-level inspectors.
  • Broad knowledge of NDI methods and composite manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of wet layup and prepreg composite materials and fabrication methods.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications, and perform mathematical computations.
  • Strong computer skills for effective communication and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and guard sensitive information.

Pay

Hourly salary range: $71,950 – $109,885.

Schedule

Full-time.
