About the role
Help assigned grade-level academic classes to prepare students for success in high school and college. Facilitate students' communicative study and time management skills, and assist in the development of test-taking strategies. Build students' confidence in subject areas and develop their problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
Responsibilities
- Help students integrate reading and writing skills.
- Facilitate students’ communicative study and time management skills.
- Aid in the development of test-taking strategies.
- Create a learning environment that fosters self-motivation and desire to learn.
- Prepare students for state mandated tests such as NJSLA, PSAT, SAT/ACT.
- Participate in the planning and delivery of team-teaching and thematic lesson plans.
- Submit typed lesson plans on time and in accordance with NJCB requirements.
- Develop and implement the Consortium/GEAR UP Curriculum based on the New Jersey Common Core Standards.
- Maintain accurate academic records and files.
- Assist in the administration, design, and evaluation of standardized diagnostic and placement tests as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in English or related field required; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in limited circumstances.
- Two years of related experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work with students of varying ages, cultures, and knowledge bases.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in individual or small group settings.
- Intermediate computer literacy skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and specialized software programs essential to the learning process.
- Knowledge of information research strategies.
- Interpersonal and organizational skills to facilitate discussions and learning in various settings.
- Fluency in a second language may be required.
- Ability to pass a discipline-specific skills test may be required.
Qualifications
- Daytime and weekend availability is needed.
Preferred Qualifications & Special Considerations
- Ability to travel to other sites as needed.
- Preferred qualifications include ability to travel locally to the Lincroft and Neptune Higher Education Centers.
