NMCC Systems Engineer
About the role
We are seeking an NMCC Systems Engineer to join our team at the Pentagon. The candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, managing and monitoring existing and new systems within the National Military Command Center. You will work with a team of systems engineers and system administrators to resolve issues, implement patches and updates, and report progress to supervisor and stakeholders. You will be required to make entries within the Remedy ticketing system to document the work accomplished on a regular basis. You will develop schedules and timelines for the work to be reviewed by leadership, collaborate with system administration, multimedia engineers, telecommunications engineers, and other teams to design and troubleshoot systems, and brief status updates or present problems and solutions to government and DOD personnel. The role involves explaining technical issues to non-technical personnel in a professional manner while working alongside system administrators responsible for Information Systems within the NMCC.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage daily activities of configuration and operation of business systems (mainframe, mini, or client/server).
- Optimize system operation and resource utilization; perform system capacity analysis and planning.
- Aid users in accessing and using business systems.
- Draft and review Engineering Installation Plans for IT requirements supporting the NMCC.
- Work directly with third-party vendors to discuss IT solutions and integration with mission-critical systems within the NMCC.
- Establish baseline hardware/software configuration for IT networks within the NMCC.
- Assist with system administrators’ implementation, security, privileges, and regular maintenance tasks.
- Develop and produce documentation, SOPs, reports, and presentation slide decks.
- Design, implement, manage, and monitor existing and new systems within the National Military Command Center.
- Collaborate with other systems engineers and system administrators to resolve issues, implement patches and updates, and report progress to supervisor and stakeholders.

- Provide solutions based on system requirements and work with multiple teams to develop solutions to technical issues.
Required Qualifications
- Active DoD TS/SCI clearance.
- At a minimum, one of the following active 8570 IAT Level II certifications:
- Security+ CE (Preferred)
- CCNA-Security
- CySA+
- GICSP
- GSEC
- CND
- SSCP
- BS degree in Information Technology or a related field and 4 years of relevant work experience; or 8 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
- Experience with Secure Technical Implementation Guidance hardening practices.
- Experience with Linux operating systems (Red Hat and CentOS).
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with other highly skilled and diverse individuals.
- Extensive experience with VMware deployments, including migration of VMs from Hyper-V to VMware, and building out comprehensive VMware solutions from start to finish (utilizing advanced features such as High Availability, Fault Tolerance, etc.).
- Extensive experience with managing Windows Server 2022 and 2019 domain environments, including AD, Group Policy, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience with building out and managing VMware environments.
- Extensive experience with building and testing Group Policy.
