System Engineer

About the role

Gromelski and Associates, Inc. (GAI) partners with prime contractors to provide professional services in engineering design and documentation, software development and testing, system integration, lab management, field installation, integrated logistics support, training development, multimedia support, and technical system support.

This system engineer position blends requirements management with hands-on engineering. You will manage requirements using JIRA, support system design tasks, and perform hands-on engineering activities such as test and evaluation, scripting, configuration, problem resolution, system installation, and hardware setup within an Agile integration team.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage requirements, including estimating, tracking, and reporting progress in JIRA.
• Support system design tasks, including hardware configuration management (including EOL parts) and software/system design documentation.
• Perform requirements development, risk management, trade studies, and interface development.
• Ensure the conversion of customer/product requirements into a total system solution that meets technical, schedule, and cost imperatives.
• Conduct functional analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definitions to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
• Lead and support complex interface definition across software, cyber, hardware, and other subsystems, ensuring consistency with system architecture and requirements.
• Prepare, organize, and attend government design reviews (e.g., CDR-like events), including building technical content, traceability views, and interface/MBSE views for senior Government stakeholders.
• Drive TBD/TBR burndown by coordinating with multi-discipline owners, tracking closure in JIRA, and maintaining clear documentation.
• Develop and maintain MBSE models in Cameo, capturing system behaviors, interfaces, and allocations for downstream design, integration, test, and verification.
• Support requirements development and documentation, including updates to specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), and SE artifacts.
• Operate within an Agile, PI-based execution model, collaborating with feature teams and SE leadership to align stories, close out tasks, and manage pop-up/government-directed work.
• Partner closely with software and cybersecurity teams while engaging with hardware, human factors, and safety engineers on cross-cutting issues.
• Contribute to planning for the transition from Development to Integration & Test, ensuring interface definitions, requirements, and models are ready for the next phase.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical discipline from an accredited college, or equivalent experience/combined education.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance.
• Proactive self-starter with the ability to work independently and drive tasks to completion.
• Team player who takes ownership and fosters relationships to support team success.

Salary range: $120,000 - $180,000
