About the role
The Plant Technical Manager (B shift) is responsible for supporting the plant and customer through effective management of new programs, plant projects, and implementation of improvement and cost-reduction suggestions. This role develops assembly processes, fixturing, and equipment to ensure high-quality, cost-effective production and ensures design changes are implemented in a timely, cost-effective manner.
Responsibilities
- Support plant safety programs by ensuring engineering support is integrated into the manufacturing process.
- Provide leadership across all departments to align teams in support of the manufacturing process.
- Leverage assembly experience in Vac form, Lamination, and IR welding, as well as injection molding.
- Manage and mentor technical staff, including Controls, Process Techs, and Engineering.
- Oversee the quoting and implementation of product and process design changes.
- Support Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) activities by ensuring Manufacturing Engineering representation at all trials, approvals, and implementation dates.
- Establish and evaluate internal integration plans, including make vs. buy decisions, and present proposals.
- Develop annual budgets and schedules for purchase burden, labor, and equipment.
- Supervise maintenance managers and manufacturing engineers.
- Manage all facilities activities at the site.
- Review job performance of subordinates to identify training and development opportunities per company policy.
- Ensure conformance to all ISO and TS requirements applicable to the position.
- Promote a safe work environment and prevent injuries through 5S, job rotation, ergonomic practices, safety auditing, incident reviews, and corrective action processes (e.g., 8D).
- Communicate safety information and participate in safety meetings and activities.
Requirements
- Engineering Degree or similar qualification.
- Minimum of 5–9 years of experience within the automotive industry.
- Ability and willingness to travel and work at customer sites, including industrial manufacturing plants, which may require climbing, lifting, or working in confined spaces.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Capability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
