The Iroquois Hotel is situated at the end of Main Street on historic Mackinac Island. With 80% of the island protected by a Michigan State Park, the island offers a variety of outdoor recreational activities, a vibrant business community, and a thriving tourism industry. Known as the number one tourist destination in the Midwest, Mackinac Island is a unique place to live and work.
About the role
We employ approximately 100 people over the course of the summer season from early May through October. We are seeking energetic and outgoing individuals who enjoy interacting with guests from various backgrounds.
Responsibilities
- Ensures reports are correct and balanced daily.
- Ensures the safety of guests throughout the evening.
- Processes all reservation requests, changes, and cancellations received by phone, fax, or email.
- Identifies guest reservation needs and determines appropriate room type. Verifies availability and explains guarantee, special rate, and cancellation policies to callers.
- Accommodates and documents special requests.
- Answers questions about property facilities/services and room accommodations.
- Fulfills sales techniques to maximize revenue. Inputs and accesses data in reservation systems. Indicates special room reservation types (e.g., complimentary rooms, employee discounts, travel agent inspection rates, and wholesale reservations) by entering the correct code and rate into the reservation system.
- Follows proper escalation procedures when addressing guest concerns.
- Speaks with others using clear and professional language; answers telephones using appropriate etiquette.
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with others; supports team to reach common goals; listens and responds appropriately to the concerns of other employees.
- Complies with quality assurance expectations and standards.
- Moves, lifts, carries, pushes, pulls, and places objects weighing less than or equal to 10 pounds without assistance.
- Performs other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- No prior experience is required; training will be provided on the job.
- Experience as a Hotel Front Desk Agent, receptionist, host/hostess, food and beverage, or customer-service-based role is preferred (but not required).
- Experience with hotel operating applications, such as Hilton OnQ, Opera, Infor, etc., is preferred.
- Positive attitude and professionalism.
- Ideal candidate is a night owl with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, including proficiency in computer applications such as email and Internet navigation.
