Department: Neonatal Intensive Care

About the role

The transport RN holds an important leadership role within the NICU. They are responsible for attending high-risk deliveries, performing lifesaving interventions, and stabilizing sick neonates alongside the transport Respiratory Therapist. The transport RN acts as an ambassador for the NICU, fostering a professional work environment and serving as a strong communicator with the medical team, families, and co-workers.

Responsibilities

  • Transport sick neonates from referral centers via helicopter and/or ambulances.
  • Train others and actively participate as a member of the transport team.
  • Place umbilical venous catheters (UVC) and perform intubation as needed.
  • Perform all standard emergency and stabilization interventions as outlined in NRP, S.T.A.B.L.E, and Cardiac S.T.A.B.L.E.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of current RN experience in NICU.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Excellent assessment skills and ability to perform in high-stress/crisis situations.
  • Leadership, flexibility, independence, initiative, problem-solving skills, and sound clinical judgment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public relations skills.
  • Certifications: BLS, NRP; RNC-NIC preferred (required after the first year on the team).
  • Must work the assigned preceptor’s schedule to ensure continuity.
  • Must meet a body weight limit of less than 230 lbs due to safety protocols and equipment limitations during patient lifts and flight operations.

Schedule

Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, authorized 48 hours bi-weekly.
