About the role

The Messina Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at South Shore Hospital is the first and only Level III NICU located in a community hospital in Massachusetts. The Level III Messina Family NICU and the Level II Andrade Family Special Care Nursery enable us to care for babies born at any time in pregnancy who have a wide range of medical conditions. The unit is staffed by doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists with specific training in the care of ill, premature, and recovery newborns. Our NICU doctors are dually affiliated with both South Shore Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Compiles and reviews patient records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Administers medications according to policies and procedures.
  • Verifies patient identification before starting any invasive procedure.
  • Documents patient care following departmental and unit-based standards.
  • Communicates with patients and families regarding their care plans and progress.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care.
  • Ensures the environment meets regulatory requirements and maintains a safe patient care environment.
  • Adheres to infection control protocols and uses personal protective equipment appropriately.
  • Works collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Assists in the discharge planning process to ensure timely and effective transitions of care.
  • Participates in professional development activities to enhance nursing skills and knowledge.
  • Complies with hospital policies and procedures related to patient safety, quality, and compliance.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Massachusetts.
  • At least 3-5 years of current NICU RN experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) certification.
  • Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring certification.
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification.
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate.
  • Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring certification.
  • Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring certification.
  • Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring certification.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Age and cultural knowledge and awareness.
  • Interacts with sensitivity in the delivery of care/services - such as, interpreter services and on-line sources.

Skills

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of neonatal and pediatric care.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and software applications.

Benefits

Commensurate with experience.

Pay

$38.20 - $77.39 per hour.

Schedule

24-hour shifts, 3-12 days per month, 12-hour shifts, 2-3 weekends per month, 3 holidays per year.
