Nicotine Dependence Treatment Counselor

Position Summary

The initial role will train to deliver tobacco cessation clinical services to clients of the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital. This includes becoming a Tobacco Treatment Specialist. Once proficient, the person will perform duties such as assessing patient readiness for change, accepting referrals, tracking addiction processes, providing counseling, and documenting progress.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Willingness to work with diverse cultural and ethnic groups, including patients and medical professionals
• Ability to learn about tobacco addiction and counseling
• Minimum education: High School Diploma or GED, Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
• Minimum experience: Four years of positive work history with customers or patients, excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability and willingness to become trained in tobacco cessation theory and counseling

Requirements

• License, Certification, Registration: Prefer Wellness Counselor, C.N.A., or CHA but not required
• Equipment/Tools/Word-Aids: Proven computer literacy, including Email, Excel, and Word
• Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Ability and willingness to become trained in tobacco cessation theory and counseling, willingness to create awareness and change in tobacco use
