Addiction Counselor

Kolmac Integrated Behavioral Health · Hagerstown, MD · 1 wk ago
On-siteEducation$25–$30/hrFull-time

About the role

As an Addiction Counselor at Kolmac, you’ll be at the center of patient care — building strong therapeutic relationships and delivering high-quality, evidence-based treatment in our Hagerstown outpatient clinic. You’ll hold a blend of individual sessions, group facilitation, and case management, with approximately 55% of your time in direct patient care. The rest is split across documentation, treatment team collaboration, and care coordination.

Core clinical responsibilities

  • Build a genuine, individualized therapeutic alliance with patients that adapts to their evolving clinical needs throughout treatment
  • Facilitate addiction treatment groups across OTP levels of care
  • Provide substance use disorder evaluations using DSM-5 and ASAM level-of-care criteria
  • Prepare and present addiction/recovery education to patients — embody the spirit of a teacher inside and outside of sessions
  • Conduct case management sessions: assessments, collaborative treatment goals, and discharge planning
  • Apply evidence-based modalities including Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and trauma-informed care
  • Work with the treatment team to address co-occurring psychiatric needs
  • Career development
  • Coordinate care across support services — family members, referral sources, and community providers
  • Provide evaluations and maintain timely, well-written documentation meeting state and CARF standards
  • Track clinical outcomes: patient retention, attendance, program completion, and treatment goal attainment
  • Participate in a shared after-hours crisis on-call rotation (one week several times per year — details discussed in interview)
  • Attend and contribute actively to treatment team meetings and professional development

Who we're looking for

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in the SUD field
  • Active Maryland addiction credential: ADT, CSC-AD, CAC-AD, or CADC
  • Strong clinical, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Experience and comfort working with an electronic medical record
  • Knowledge of multiple recovery modalities: SMART Recovery, 12-Step, Harm Reduction, Women for Sobriety, Recovery Dharma, and others
  • Experience with Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and trauma-informed care approaches
  • Flexible team player with a solution-focused, patient-first attitude

Compensation

The pay for this position is $25–$30 per hour. Factors such as geographical location, relevant experience, licensure, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.

Benefits Include

  • STAR Recognition Program – Quarterly company-sponsored trip for highlighted individuals.
  • Employee Referral Bonus – Earn rewards through our tiered referral program when you help us bring great people on board
  • Clinical Supervision – Ongoing professional support to help you grow in your career
  • Free Financial Advisor – Personalized financial guidance at no cost to you
  • Employee Discounts – Exclusive savings through Working Advantage
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – Confidential support for life’s challenges, available when you need it
  • PTO – Start with 15 days and accrue more over time
  • Paid Holidays – 7 paid holidays per year
  • Medical, Dental & Vision – Multiple plan options to fit your needs, including Kaiser Permanente with wellness and self-care resources
  • Tax-Advantaged Savings – HSA, HRA, and FSA options available
  • Disability Coverage – Company-paid short-term and long-term disability insurance
  • Life Insurance – Company-provided coverage for your peace of mind

Why Clinicians Stay at Kolmac

  • Caseloads that don’t burn you out. We cap direct care at 55% for a reason. You’ll have time to document, consult, and actually think.
  • Real interdisciplinary collaboration. You’ll work alongside physicians, nurses, and case managers — not in a silo.
  • Literacy that has clinical roots. Our program directors carry clinical backgrounds. When you raise a concern, you’re talking to someone who gets it.
  • Growth as we grow. We’re actively expanding our programs, which means pathways into leadership, supervision, and specialty tracks for the right clinicians.
  • Mission-driven, not metrics-driven. We measure success through clinical outcomes — patient retention, program completion, and transitions of care.

Apply

If this sounds like the environment where you do your best work, we’d like to hear from you. Submit your resume and a brief note on your clinical approach. We review applications on a rolling basis and aim to respond within one week.
