Summary and Responsibilities

The NHYPM Paraprofessional will work closely with the Education Team to ensure the safety and well-being of the students while participating in the education program. This position requires knowledge of dirt bikes and riding ability, maintenance expertise, and other general knowledge of motorcycles. The Paraeducator functions as part of the academic and treatment team and is responsible for assisting educators, providing supervision, coordinating the program, teaching riding skills and bike maintenance, supporting instruction, and participating in various activities.

  • Be an enthusiastic and motivated role model to students.
  • Assist educators and provide supervision of students while in school and during programming.
  • Coordinate and manage the NHYPM program with MPA students.
  • Provide mechanical tutorials and teach basic riding skills and dirt bike maintenance.
  • Supportive supervision and participation in class activities including trail riding, bike mechanics etc.
  • Aid in "wake-up" duties to the assigned residential program if needed.
  • Assist with behavioral interventions within the classroom as needed, modeling and using ARC principles and TCI Training.
  • Aid in substitute lessons as assigned by the teacher and/or NHYPM Director as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Participate in monitoring and supervising transitional times, lunch, school beginning and ending activities for student accountability.
  • Assist with community-based activities and appointments related to student’s needs as assigned.
  • Provide aid as requested by the Dean of Students or Academic Director in daily routines.
  • Pursue appropriate channels of communication.
  • Understand the administrative structure, chain of command, and program philosophy of MPA.
  • Appropriately represent Mount Prospect Academy to the community, students' parents, and outside agencies.
  • Follow all MPA and NHYPM company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • 21 years of age
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Satisfactory background check
  • Meet safe driver guidelines as established by MPA’s insurance carrier
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or 60 college credits OR: a high school diploma and one of the following;
  • The equivalent of 2 years full time experience working with children.
  • 7 years parenting experience.
  • Human services credits and child experience equaling 2 years.
  • Requirements that meet Child Care Licensing Reg. He- C. 4001.19

Physical Requirements

  • Can perform physical demands associated with the position including, but not limited to, sitting, standing, bending, lifting, squatting, participating in outdoor programming, behavioral interventions, and driving.
