NF Inspector

About the role

The Inspector position at Sims Metal is crucial for maintaining high-quality standards and ensuring compliance with company specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
• Examine incoming customer materials to identify and classify ferrous and non-ferrous commodities.
• Determine the appropriate commodity grade and purchase classification for materials received.
• Inspect materials to ensure compliance with company specifications, quality standards, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
• Verify that materials meet shipping and processing standards.
• Use computer systems and kiosks to accurately process and record material purchases.
• Mark materials as approved or rejected based on inspection results and document findings as required.
• Maintain accurate inspection and purchasing records.
• Provide excellent customer service when interacting with suppliers and customers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• A High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
• One to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English is required.
• Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus but are not required.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to work with electronic purchasing systems are required.
• Ability to identify and distinguish different grades of scrap metal is preferred.

Physical Demands

• Regularly stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Use hands to handle, grasp, feel, and manipulate objects.
• Reach with hands and arms.
• Talk, hear, and communicate effectively.
• Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and maintain balance.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Work Environment

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical equipment, and industrial environments typical of a scrap metal recycling facility.
• Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times as required by company policy.
