(NEX NORFOLK) SALES ASSOCIATE - MINI MART

About the Role

Sells general merchandise to customers using professional selling techniques. Works as part of a sales team to provide service that anticipates and exceeds customer expectations. Assists in all aspects of ensuring full operation of the Food and Beverage Convenience Bar, including opening and closing, preparing, displaying, replenishing goods, and cleaning stations and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Greets and engages customers in conversation to provide sales-related assistance.
• Assists in the selection of merchandise and suggests complementary items.
• Offers customers the opportunity to purchase extended product warranties, explaining coverage, benefits, and price.
• Interacts with customers and coworkers in a friendly and professional manner, adhering to dress code/uniform standards.
• Becomes knowledgeable about merchandise, including setup, use, care, characteristics, price points, and warranty coverage.
• Communicates product-related information to customers clearly and accurately.
• Ensures assigned areas are fully stocked and merchandise is neatly arranged.
• Communicates with supervisors regarding stock additions, deletions, fast/slow-selling merchandise, customer preferences, and problems.
• Participates in department meetings and shares ideas for improving customer service and achieving sales goals.
• Completes sales transactions efficiently and thanks customers for their patronage.
• Performs cash register transactions (cash, charge, check, gift certificates, layaway) accurately and correctly.
• Advises customers of upcoming sales events and services such as gift wrapping, engraving, delivery, and gift certificates.
• Offers customers the opportunity to open a NEXCARD account and explains its benefits.
• Becomes knowledgeable in NEX store policies, including merchandise returns, price matching, check cashing, and rain checks.
• Handles customer returns and problems tactfully and efficiently, applying store policies consistently.
• Maintains awareness in assigned areas to deter theft and provide excellent customer service.
• Unpacks, stages, and moves merchandise as assigned.
• Assists in creating store displays and performing periodic inventories.
• Completes paperwork related to merchandise/inventory movement, price adjustments, customer returns, and cash register operations accurately.
• Participates in applicable commission and gainsharing sales incentive programs.
• Lifts up to 25 lbs. as required for job duties, including assisting customers and stocking sales areas.

Food and Beverage Convenience Bar Responsibilities

• Opens and closes the Food and Beverage Convenience Bar.
• Ensures all equipment is turned on during opening and off during closing (e.g., display merchandiser, signs).
• Preheats and displays products in heated display merchandisers.
• Replenishes products and condiments (e.g., napkins, straws, cups, lids, creamer, sugar) in holding bins on the beverage bar.
• Time-dates all products remaining at the close of business when placed in the refrigerator.
• Cleans small wares and equipment throughout the day and at closing.
• Monitors refrigerator and freezer temperatures at least three times daily (early morning, mid-day, late afternoon).
• May be required to attend a 4-hour food safety training session initially and an annual refresher thereafter.

Qualifications

No experience required. High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

Schedule

Part-time (20 - 34.5 hours).
