Newsperson - Part-Time Flex (Atlanta, GA)
About the role
The Associated Press is seeking three (3) part-time, temporary newspersons for its Regional Sports Desk. These positions require writing, editing, and rewriting sports stories covering both professional and college leagues. Candidates must be proficient in communicating with various sources, including AP staff members, stringers, and Sports Information Directors.
Responsibilities
- Write, edit, and rewrite sports stories using Pronto and other AP and third-party automated systems.
- Collaborate with a team of journalists, reporters, and editors to produce high-quality sports content.
- Communicate stories that are engaging and suitable for sharing on social media and other platforms.
- Work under deadline pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, such as at least three years of full-time news experience as a news assistant or researcher in a news bureau or regional desk.
- Strong knowledge of sports (professional and college).
- Proven interpersonal, organizational, and planning skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-directed and capable of working independently while contributing to a team.

- Home computer (PC or Mac) and access to Wi-Fi is required.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Pay
This position is covered by The Associated Press' contract with the News Media Guild, which provides for an annual salary for Class A staff of between $53,477 and $85,214 based on location and years of professional experience. Compensation is contingent on a job candidate’s skills, qualifications, and market location.
Schedule
This is a part-time, remote position ranging from 4 to 14 hours per week that requires scheduling flexibility.
