News Writer (Journalist for Digital Publication)

About the role

We are looking for a News Writer to cover timely and engaging stories from communities across the United States.

Key Responsibilities

• Research, write, and publish accurate, engaging, and timely U.S. local news stories.
• Monitor local news sources, government announcements, press releases, community updates, and social media to identify story opportunities.
• Cover a wide range of local topics, including community events, public safety, education, transportation, local government, infrastructure, weather, and business developments.
• Develop compelling story angles that provide context and relevance for readers.
• Sure all content is accurate, well-sourced, fact-checked, and aligned with editorial standards.
• Work closely with editors and research teams to maintain a consistent publishing pipeline.

Required Qualifications

• 2-4 years of experience in journalism, news writing, content writing, blogging, or digital publishing.
• Strong interest in U.S. local news and current affairs.
• Excellent written English and strong storytelling skills.
• Ability to research information from multiple credible sources and write clear, accurate, and engaging articles.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced news environment while maintaining quality and accuracy.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to factual reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience writing for a college publication, news website, blog, or digital media platform.
• Familiarity with AP style or other journalistic writing standards.
• Background in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, Media Studies, or a related field is a plus.
• Understanding of how local news impacts communities and readers.
