News Producer

About the role

WSBT is seeking a creative News Producer to handle the day-to-day production of our newscasts. You will collaborate closely with the Executive Producer, Director, Assignment Desk, and Anchors to shape the newscast and its content. This role involves determining the content and flow of newscasts, working with management and on-air staff to generate and write stories, and developing content for our website.

Responsibilities

• Determine the content and flow of newscasts
• Generate and write stories in collaboration with management and on-air staff
• Develop content for the station’s website
• Execute news strategies and goals in daily newscasts
• Work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Demonstrate on-the-spot problem-solving and flexibility

Requirements

• Solid news judgment
• Compelling and accurate writing skills
• Ability to multitask and manage time effectively to produce an exciting and informative newscast
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Proficiency with non-linear editing (e.g., Avid) and newsroom systems (e.g., iNews)

Qualifications

• At least some previous news producing experience at a commercial TV station (entry-level candidates may be considered if qualified)
• A journalism degree is preferred
